The borough of Ville St. Laurent is bordered by Ahuntsic/Bordeaux/Cartierville to the east, Dorval to the west, Cote St. Luc to the south and Dollard des Ormeaux to the northwest. The district has a large industrial base and many companies have their head offices and warehouses here. Ideally situated for commerce it is in close proximity to the Trans Canada highway, passenger and freight rail lines and Montreal’s premier airfield the Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.
Real estate, especially condominiums are abundant and there are still many areas of undeveloped land. The region is well known for its high-rise apartments and condos and has been dubbed a concrete jungle, though it truly does not accurately describe the area, as there are many green spaces around. Continued growth has seen a big upsurge in housing starts. Sections like Cote Vertu and Cavendish Boulevards have seen a sharp increase in luxury condo apartments being built, while the Bois Franc quarter has witnessed a magnificent housing project developed by Bombardier featuring large beautiful townhouses with their own golf course, park and pond.
Because of its central location Ville St. Laurent residents enjoy easy access to everything the city of Montreal has to offer. Whether it is the tremendous nightlife, shopping, dining or entertainment, all of it is within a 15-minute excursion by car, bus or subway.
Cote Vertu is one of the main arteries serving the area. Along its route there are scores of businesses, shopping centers like the very large Cote Vertu mall, schools and condo complexes. It crosses St. Croix blvd, which is known for its churches and schools, especially Vanier College, while Decarie blvd, which it also crosses, is known for its many bargain shops, stores, restaurants and boutiques. To the North of Decarie is a large residential section featuring many bungalow type homes.
Condo complexes here offer a great view of the city and are for sale or rent. They come in all kinds of sizes and floor plans. Amenities can include anything you can dream of from executive services to recreational facilities. Most are close to schools and shopping and are easily within walking distance of them. The area has a number of subway terminals, bus depots, train stations and taxi stands for effortless commuting.
Sports are quite popular and are enjoyed year round thanks to the many arenas and parks in the region. Hockey, curling and figure skating are but a few of the winter activities, while baseball, football, soccer, tennis and golf are just some of the summer ones available to young and old.
Thimmens blvd is another area that has seen tremendous growth, from large elegant condo apartments, school annexes and specialty shops like M&M’s, a unique frozen food retailer offering countless meals and desserts that you just pop in the microwave or thaw in the refrigerator.
Ville St. Laurent is one of those towns that are often overlooked simply because it is so central. Everyone passes right by it but never notices just how convenient, sophisticated and opulent the region really is.
